Texbrokers.com, so far a legitimate way for writters to work from home

So I have been checking into this online writing stuff and so far I have found it to be a bit difficult to make any real money.  Sure the work is there, it is just very low paying when you are starting out.  And you have to spend a lot of time looking for a match to what you are capable of writing, which is more time you could be making money.
I read about a site called www.textbroker.com on another site and decided to look into it.  The idea is simple, as you write they rate your writing.  Based on how well you write, the more or less you get paid per word.
When someone needs content written, they select how high they want the quality to be, the subject and how many words long it should be.  Then the available jobs are posted on the site and if your ranking is high enough you can view the posted job.  If you like the details, you select the job and you are given a certain amount of time to complete the project.  Most of what I have looked at are due within a day.

Now for the part that everyone cares the most about, how much do you get paid.  Well that depends.  After you register you are given a few different choices of a sample article to write.  The sample is around 300.  Once you write it and send it off it may take a few days to get a reply.  I received mine about 20 hours later.  I was rated a level three, right in the middle.  From what I have read most receive this ranking when they start out unless they are masters of the English language.
Here is the pay scale based on how many stars you are rated:
**        0.07 cents per word
***      1.0 cents per word
****    1.4 cents per word
*****  5 cents per word

So for me a 500 word article would pay $5 which is not to bad.  Its not great, but its fair.  I have heard that if you do decent during you first five articles they are pretty liberal about bumping you up to the four start rating which means a 500 word article would pay $7 which is pretty good.

I'm not sure what qualifies you to be rate five star.  I'm sure if they told me I would not understand anyway because the explanation would be full of big words and talk about prepositional phrases.

I wrote my first article today, it was a 300 word article about hiring a heating contractor.  The company ordering the work has three days to review the article and either accept it or send it back for revision.  They have to allow the writer at least on chance for revision before they can reject it outright.

Today was my first full day on the site but I did not get on until late in the morning to see what was available.  By the time I got on, I found few postings that interested me.  I found about 20 article requests about tattoos with various key words.  Some about Internet marketing and a few about heating and air conditioning.  It does get updated during the day but it seemed like most posting were made in the morning.  Tomorrow I will have to look early and see what I can find.

So far it seems like something to do for a little extra income when you have some downtime.  You just have to proofread, which I'm sure you can tell from my blog I never do :)

Ill keep you posted when I get paid.
