Emergency Liquidation Center $5 non refundable entry, or else they would not make any money. |
But I paid for the three of us to go in to this traveling electronics show with the intention of buying a computer. The ad said they had laptops starting at $99. I understand the advertised model is a bare bones computer just advertised to draw a crowd. But I still figure I should be able to get a decent price on one at the show.
So I paid for us to get in and noticed the huge signs posted all around the entry stating no refunds were allowed on admission fees. They called the admission fees a membership fee. It gives you entry to their little event once a day for a month.
As soon as I paid my attention turned to the security at the event, who did not look like typical security. If they were going for an undercover look they accomplished it. Aside from the dress, most of them appeared to be under the influence.
Despite the radio ad full of various electronic devices for sale, half of the building was backpacks, purses, shoes and belts. Another quarter of the building was remote control cars and some outdated electronic accessories.
So I went to look at the computers, some still took the floppy discs in them. I thought for a minute windows XP was Microsofts latest release the way it was advertised.
So the salesman asked what I was looking for and I told him I wanted a gaming computer for my son. I told him what I wanted, a computer with a dedicated video card. He showed me a $500 model, which would have been a steal, if it had the video card I wanted. He started talking about video memory, trying to confuse the issue of a video card. After I asked him directly, he admitted they did not have anything with a video card in it.
Looking at the specs on the laptop it was a little high. All the units looked used, a few even had cracks in the housing.
I stopped into Walmart after I left, and found the same brand laptop they offered me, but newer with a faster processor for $349.
Every single item they sold was priced higher than you could buy it at Walmart. Car chargers were $10 cheaper at Walmart. Wireless keyboard and mouse was $10 cheaper, and the list goes on.
The cell phones and tablets they sold were from some brands I had never heard of and were a lot more expensive than any box store. And the specs were not anywhere near what is coming out now.
A group of 5 of us went in with the intentions of spending a good chuck of change on some things we had been wanting. We spent a total of 20 minutes in their and not even my kids could find anything to buy. And my boys will ask for something no matter what store we go to. If they can get Dad to spend money they do.
So we walked out feeling like we were ripped off having spent $15 to get in. Luckily two of my kids got in free. More than the money I felt foolish for wasting my time driving over there. This is a traveling show, and they had a decent crowd. But I did not see anyone buying anything. Just a lot of people irritated they had to pay to get in.
Save your money, when this comes to your town do not waste your time. I am not sure how long they will be in Bakersfield. At the door I was told I was allowed entry anyway for a month with my membership card. If someone really wanted to go, send me an email and Ill give you my card because I won't be going back.
